1. K-9 Angels Rescue
K-9 Angels Rescue opened in 2012 with a mission to rescue healthy and adoptable dogs and cats from shelters in the Houston area before they are unnecessarily put down. K-9 Angels Rescue aims to foster all rescued pets in their care in homes rather than house them in kennels to aid the transition from shelter to forever home.
You can see all the adoptable dogs and cats here and, when you find a pet you’d like to adopt, read the guidelines and apply here. K-9 Angels Rescue relies on donations from the local community; you can support the rescue by donating money or volunteering your time. Contact them if you have any other questions or need further information.
2. Houston Pets Alive
Founded by Angela Birkelbach in 2014, Houston Pets Alive works with local shelters to save as many pets as they have foster families to house them. Houston Pets Alive works specifically with those pets at risk of being put to sleep at a shelter within 24 hours, so they do not take in any pets surrendered directly by the public.
If you’re interested in adopting a dog or cat from Houston Pets Alive, check out this site to see all animals available and apply for adoption. You can also help support Houston Pets Alive by donating money or supplies following the guidelines here or by visiting or donating to their thrift shop on Nottingham Street in Houston. Have any other questions? Contact them using the appropriate email found here.
